Overview of Workbook

1

Foundation & Mindset

"Most people start a business thinking the hard part is the idea. It's not. The hard part is what happens inside your head when the money is tight, the customers aren't coming, and nobody is coming to save you. Before you write a business plan or spend a single dollar — read this chapter first."

2

Business Systems

"If you feel like your business can't run for five minutes without you — that's not a staffing problem. That's a systems problem. And until you fix it, you'll never have a real business. You'll just have a job you can't quit."

3

AI & The Future of Small Business

"The small business owners who thrive in the next ten years won't necessarily be the smartest or the most experienced. They'll be the ones who figured out how to use AI before their competition did. This chapter is your head start."

Hey, I'm David!

I didn't learn business in a classroom. I learned it the hard way — behind the wheel of a truck, and in the early mornings of building something from nothing more times than I can count.

I spent seven years in the Marine Corps, then 18 years in trucking — 12 of them running my own company. I retired at 45, and I found out I was a terrible retiree, and went right back to work. Since then I've built a promotions company to support veterans in need, started a non-profit to help fellow vets get service dogs, launched a coffee company, and picked up business coaching along the way to help first-time founders avoid the mistakes I already made for them.

I've helped build businesses in industries that have nothing in common except one thing — they all started with an idea, a lot of hard work, and zero guarantees.
